When everything feels urgent: putting Lachin to the tes

Finding work, learning a language, settling into a new home — after moving to another country, the list of things to do can grow quickly. Sometimes the difficult part is deciding where to start.

For this demonstration, we gave Lachin, the AI-powered assistant in TWIIN, one everyday scenario. We were not looking for a contact or a service. We wanted to see how he would respond to someone feeling overwhelmed by their to-do list.

The question

We asked Lachin in Ukrainian. Here is the English translation:

“Since moving, I’ve had a lot of things pile up. I need to look for work, learn the language and sort out everyday life. I’m feeling lost. Help me choose one small step for today.”

The request was deliberately simple: not a plan for the next six months, but something manageable to begin with.

What Lachin said

His response, translated into English, was:

“I understand — that really is a lot. For today, choose just one small step: spend ten minutes making a list of your three most urgent tasks and put them in order. That will reduce the chaos a little.”

The response also included a link to the BaltHUB website for finding services. In this demonstration, we focused on the suggestion itself rather than moving to the separate service directory.

A concrete starting point

Lachin suggested a time limit, a short list and a decision: ten minutes, three tasks, and an order of priority.

That is something a person can try without having to organise their whole life at once. For example, they could open a notebook, write down three pressing tasks and choose which one needs attention first.

Does that mean the advice will help everyone? No. It is a general suggestion, and whether it is useful depends on the person and their circumstances. This demonstration shows one response — it does not prove that the conversation reduced someone’s stress or resolved their difficulties.

What it does show is a way to start talking to Lachin: describe what is happening and ask for one manageable next step.

You can use your own words

You do not need a special prompt or experience with AI. You can speak or type, explain what you are struggling with and say what kind of response would be useful.

For example:

“I have several things to deal with, but very little time today. Help me think through where to start.”

If a suggestion does not fit, you can explain why and ask a follow-up question. You decide what to do with the response.

A first step, not a substitute for professional support

Through RefAid BaltHUB, TWIIN supports Ukrainians in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Lachin can offer a supportive response and help you think through a possible starting point. He does not make decisions for you or replace a doctor, lawyer, psychologist or emergency services.

The chat and the BaltHUB service directory have different roles: you can talk to Lachin about your situation, while the directory is a separate tool for finding services and contacts.

What would you ask?

You do not have to explain everything at once. Start with what matters to you today.
